Karapuzha Dam, one of India’s largest and the second biggest earth dam located 16 km away from Kalpetta , 15 Kilo meters from Sulthan Bathery (Kozhikode-Mysore-Kollegal Hwy/NH 766 and kakkavayal karapuzha road), 77 Kilo meters from Kozhikode, 136 Kilometers from Mysore, Karnataka and 60 Kilo meters from Gudalur, Tamil Nadu.. It straddles the Karapuzha River, a tributary of the Kabini River. The water here is around 158 feet deep. The scenic environs of Karapuzha Dam with its partly engulfed hills and verdurous islands is an ideal breeding place for aquatic birds. The background of the gushing water from the dam against the luxuriant mountains makes the reservoir a charming tourist spot.
